Visio 2010 Advanced
Microsoft Office Visio 2010 is Microsoft’s diagramming application. This new version of Visio now uses the ribbon interface. Other new features include Auto Align and Space, improved AutoConnect, many improved diagram types, and other tools that will make creating diagrams easier.
This Advanced level is intended to help everyday users become familiar with the ability to customize Visio drawings using advanced features such as legends and master shapes. This manual will also help more experienced users create advanced diagrams, such as the PivotDiagram.
This manual will cover adding data to shapes, using advanced markup tools, adding advanced shapes and legends to a diagram, as well as the creation of PivotDiagrams. By the end of this manual, users should be comfortable using the more advanced features found in Visio to assist in the creation and implementation of complex diagrams.
This manual was created using Microsoft Visio 2010 Premium. Our test machine was a 64-bit computer using Windows 7 Professional. If you are an instructor, you can use any version of Windows that is accessible to your students. Any feature specific to Windows 7 in this manual will be marked as such.
Occasionally, this manual may reference where certain keys are on the keyboard (such as Insert, Home, or Page Up). The directions are given based on a standard desktop keyboard that contains a separate number pad. Laptop keyboards may be different or have combined keys.
This manual presumes that the user has a basic knowledge of Windows, including concepts such as using the mouse and keyboard. It also presumes that the user has completed the Intermediate level of this course (or has equivalent knowledge) and is familiar with the creation of various types of diagrams and the Visio interface.
Microsoft Office Excel 2010 needs to be installed in order to generate shape reports, which are used in Section 2.
